The Nigerians in Diaspora Assembly (NiDA), London chapter, has applauded Engineer Gbenga Komolafe, Chief Executive of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), for his recent international recognitions — a Professional Doctorate in Leadership (Energy Law) from the International Business School of Scandinavia and the Global Sustainable Leadership Award at the 2025 Global Sustainable Education and Leadership (G-SEL) Conference held at the House of Lords, UK Parliament.

In a statement released on Saturday, NiDA London President, Dr. Sani Abubakar, and Secretary, Mrs. Chioma Okorafor, commended Komolafe for his exceptional contributions that have elevated Nigeria’s image globally.

“These honours underscore the excellence, innovation, and integrity Nigerians bring to global leadership. Engineer Komolafe’s recognition reflects that hard work and professionalism continue to earn international respect, further projecting Nigeria as a nation of capable and visionary leaders,” the statement read.

The group praised Komolafe’s outstanding leadership at NUPRC, particularly his effective implementation of reforms under the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) and his commitment to promoting indigenous participation in the oil and gas sector.

“Under his leadership, Nigeria’s upstream industry has experienced remarkable progress — from the sharp increase in active rig counts to record fiscal surpluses. The Host Community Development Trust, now exceeding N350 billion, has financed impactful projects that promote peace and development in host communities. This is proof that transparent and responsible leadership fosters both economic growth and social stability,” NiDA London stated.

The organisation also described Komolafe’s double honour as an inspiration to Nigerians across the globe.

“Engineer Komolafe’s achievements are a source of pride to Nigerians everywhere. They convey a powerful message that our citizens, regardless of background, can attain global recognition through dedication, excellence, and ethical conduct,” the group noted.

NiDA further emphasised that Komolafe’s awards highlight Nigeria’s growing credibility as an attractive destination for energy investment.

“By merging regulatory discipline with strategic vision, Komolafe has positioned Nigeria as a transparent and competitive hub for upstream development. His leadership continues to demonstrate the transformative power of African excellence in shaping the global energy narrative, inspiring young Nigerians to strive for professionalism and impact,” the statement added.

Since assuming office, Komolafe has driven unprecedented growth in the nation’s upstream oil and gas sector. The number of active rigs surged from eight in 2021 to 69 by October 2025 — a rise of over 760 percent. Revenue performance has consistently surpassed targets, with surpluses of 18.3 percent in 2022, 14.6 percent in 2023, and 84.2 percent in 2024.

The Host Community Development Trust has channelled billions into infrastructure and social projects, strengthening relationships between oil firms and host communities in alignment with global best practices.

NiDA London urged the Nigerian government to continue supporting visionary public officers like Komolafe, while calling on the diaspora to celebrate achievements that spotlight Nigeria’s global potential.
