The Northern Senators Forum (NSF) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Senator Godiya Akwashiki, describing him as a consummate parliamentarian and devoted public servant whose passing is a great loss to the nation.

In a statement signed by the Chairman of the Forum, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’adua, the NSF said Senator Akwashiki, who represented Nasarawa North Senatorial District, died on December 31, 2025, leaving behind an enduring legacy of service and commitment to national development.

According to the statement, Senator Akwashiki’s political career was marked by perseverance, integrity, and dedication to the welfare of his people. He served in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly for eight years, where he rose to the position of Deputy Speaker, before being elected to the Nigerian Senate in 2019. He was re-elected in 2023, continuing to represent his constituents with passion and distinction.

The Forum noted that throughout his time in the Senate, Senator Akwashiki was a strong voice for the Eggon nation and Nasarawa State, earning the respect of his colleagues through his contributions to legislative debates, committee work, and the overall lawmaking process.
“As a seasoned lawmaker, his wealth of experience and insight enriched the National Assembly and strengthened our democratic institutions. His absence will be deeply felt,” the statement said.
On behalf of the Northern Senators Forum, Senator Yar’adua extended heartfelt condolences to the family of the late senator, the government and people of Nasarawa State, and the Eggon nation, describing Senator Akwashiki as a servant leader whose life exemplified selfless leadership and unity.
The Forum prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul and urged Nigerians to draw inspiration from his dedication to public service as they continue the collective task of building a better Nigeria.
