Oyetola Congratulates Dantsoho on Election as IAPH Vice President
The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, His Excellency Adegboyega Oyetola, CON, has congratulated Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), on his election as Vice President of the International Association for Ports and Harbours (IAPH).
In a statement released on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Dr.
Bolaji Akinola, Oyetola described the election as a reflection of Dr. Dantsoho’s exemplary leadership and a global acknowledgment of Nigeria’s growing relevance in maritime affairs.According to the Minister, the development underscores the progress recorded under the Federal Government’s ongoing port modernisation programme.
“This election is a recognition of the reforms being implemented to reposition Nigerian ports and advance the Federal Government’s blue economy agenda,” Oyetola said. “It affirms our commitment to building a more efficient, secure, and competitive maritime sector, which is central to our national economic strategy.”
He explained that the port modernisation initiative is a holistic programme aimed at upgrading port infrastructure, deploying modern technology, and improving operational efficiency. The initiative, he noted, is designed to bring Nigerian ports to international standards and establish the country as a leading maritime hub in Africa.
The International Association for Ports and Harbours (IAPH) is a globally respected organisation that advises the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and other UN agencies. With over 300 member ports and port-related businesses across 90 countries, the IAPH plays a key role in shaping global port policy, promoting sustainability, and encouraging international collaboration.
Oyetola stressed that Dr. Dantsoho’s new role within the IAPH will strengthen Nigeria’s position in global maritime policy discussions. He expressed confidence that Dantsoho’s wealth of experience will drive impactful contributions to the association while amplifying Nigeria’s voice and fostering deeper international partnerships.
