Pastor Chris Okafor Under Intensifying Police Investigation Over Sexual Allegations
The controversy involving Pastor Chris Okafor of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries has deepened, as the Lagos State Police Command has ordered a comprehensive investigation into multiple allegations connected to the cleric.
Pastor Okafor had, on January 1, announced his decision to temporarily withdraw from pastoral responsibilities and issued a public apology to members of his church, acknowledging that he had made “mistakes.” Despite this move, public attention and criticism have continued to grow, with new accusations circulating widely on social media platforms.
In response, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has instructed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) at Panti to invite the pastor for questioning. The directive followed a surge in online claims, including serious allegations bordering on criminal conduct.
Confirming the development, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, said the investigation was ordered even though no formal complaint had yet been lodged. According to her, the police leadership deemed it necessary to act in the interest of public confidence and due process.
She added that law enforcement authorities are working to trace those making the allegations online, as well as identify possible witnesses who may provide useful information to aid the investigation.
The matter reportedly began on December 14 when Nollywood actress Doris Ogala released a series of videos accusing Pastor Okafor of sexually and emotionally exploiting her and later abandoning her after what she described as a relationship. The actress subsequently issued a legal demand for ₦1 billion in damages, alleging threats, intimidation, and unlawful detention following the widespread circulation of her claims.
As investigations continue, the police say all allegations will be thoroughly examined to establish the facts surrounding the case.
