Suspected hired thugs wielding machetes, iron rods, sticks, and other dangerous weapons disrupted a peaceful “thank-you” visit organized by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State on Saturday.

The assailants stormed the PDP Secretariat, venue of the meeting, in large numbers, causing chaos and scattering party officials, stakeholders, and supporters.

What could have turned into a bloodbath was averted due to the swift intervention of the PDP State Chairman, Adamu Bako Ninga, alongside security operatives who were present at the venue.

While the motive behind the attack remains unclear as at the time of filing this report, some party members have accused the opposition of being behind the incident.

Earlier in the day, the PDP delegation led by Chairman Ninga had paid a successful courtesy visit to the Etsu Karu, His Royal Highness, Pharmacist Luka Panyan, to seek royal blessings for the party’s activities.

Addressing newsmen after the incident, Alhaji Adamu Bako Ninga urged party supporters and residents of Nasarawa State to remain peaceful and law-abiding despite provocations from elements seeking to destabilize the political atmosphere.

He emphasized that the PDP remains committed to peace and will not succumb to intimidation or harassment.

“The PDP is known for peace and unity, and we will not be intimidated or distracted in our quest to rescue Nasarawa from slavery, hardship, and poverty,” Ninga declared.

He further called on party stakeholders, supporters, and the general public to reject violence, avoid provocations, and embrace peaceful coexistence in the overall interest of Nasarawa State.
