PSC Elevates 93 Senior Police Officers, Promotes Agbonika, 12 Others to AIG

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 93 senior police officers to higher ranks, including the elevation of Commissioner of Police Monday Agbonika and 12 others to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG).

The promotions were approved during the Commission’s plenary meeting held on Wednesday at its corporate headquarters in Abuja, following the officers’ successful participation in written examinations and oral interviews.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the PSC’s Head of Press and Public Relations, Mr. Torty Njoku, said the exercise forms part of the Commission’s commitment to rewarding professionalism, competence and outstanding service within the Nigeria Police Force.

According to the Commission, the newly promoted AIGs are Itam Nnaghe Obono (Counter Terrorism Unit), Bassey Samuel Ewah (Plateau State Command), Osagie John Agans-Irabor (FCID Lagos), Monday Agbonika (Edo State Command), Iyamah Daniel Adebor (Bayelsa State Command), Isa Danladi Nda (Abia State Command).

Also, Akaninyene Ezima (Director, NPF-NCCC), Livingstein Ikioye Orutugu (Anambra State Command), Afegbua B. Rashid (Cross River State Command), Edozie Hycenth Azuka (AML/CFT, FCID), Haruna Alaba Yahaya (Jigawa State Command), Emenari Ifeanyi Innocent (Benue State Command), and Betty Enekpen Otimenyin (Welfare).

The Commission also elevated 17 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) to the rank of Commissioner of Police (CP). They include Nelson Nwamanna, Bolanle A. Murtala, Danbaba Mohammed Labbo, Ajayi Oluyemi, Oki Rita Oyintare, Ibrahim Umar Zungura, Iya Umar Mohammed, Darma Nuhu Na’Aliyu, Nuruddeen A. Sabo, Tijjani Murtala, Yakubu Mohammed, Ibrahim Lukunche Usman, Akingbade C. Adeyinka, Mohammed Hassan Ahmed, Samuel Erale Ahmed, Adedeji Taiwo and Zainab A. Pembi.

Similarly, 28 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) were promoted to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP). Those elevated include Ofili Felix, Mohammed Baba-Mala, Deborah O. Benary, Mohammed Sani Musa, Lot Garba Lantoh, Ijeoma Princewill Onyema, Oyedepo Olubisi, Amanyi Christopher and Regina Mbanefo, among others.

In addition, the PSC approved the promotion of 33 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP). Among those promoted are Mustapha Lawal, Gafar Ajayi Adeyanju and Nnamdi Lotanna Anabike, alongside 30 others.

The Commission also confirmed the appointments of 162 Assistant Superintendents of Police II (ASP II) to the substantive rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police I (ASP I).

Speaking after the promotions, the Chairman of the PSC, retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police Hashimu Salihu Argungu, congratulated the officers and urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them through exemplary service.

He charged the newly promoted officers to uphold professionalism, transparency and accountability while discharging their duties, warning them against involvement in civil matters, particularly land disputes.

Argungu further advised the officers to protect their integrity and reputation, stressing that their conduct should inspire public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.

“Guide your reputation and integrity. Let your actions speak for you and not against you,” he said.
