Road Safety Officers Wives seek support of Transport Union on Traffic management
The need for drivers to ensure the safety and protect the rights of pedestrians, cyclists, and female drivers took center stage at the commencement of the nationwide Special Motor Park Campaign by the Road Safety Officers’ Wives Association ROSOWA in Abuja.
At the Area One Garki Central Park, the National President of ROSOWA, Dr. Nafisat Shehu-Mohammed, said the campaign became necessary to raise awareness about the dangers of reckless driving on the roads.
Dr. Shehu-Mohammed appealed to commuters and motorists to always obey traffic rules and avoid the consumption of alcoholic drinks.

She emphasized that driving under the influence of illicit drugs and overspeeding are major factors causing accidents on the highways.
The ROSOWA President noted that the association would also commence road safety awareness programs in both public and private schools to instill a culture of safe driving in young people.
Speaking at the event, the President of the National Council for Women Societies NCWS, Mrs. Edna Azura, said women’s groups across the country would support every initiative aimed at protecting the rights of women and children on the road.
Mrs. Azura passionately appealed to commercial drivers to offer necessary assistance to women whenever the need arises.
In his opening remarks, the FCT Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC, Mr. Muta’a Chorrie, commended ROSOWA for their unwavering commitment to advancing road safety advocacy.
He noted that the campaign was part of activities to mark the 8th United Nations Global Road Safety Week, with the theme “Streets for Life: Making Walking Safe, Making Cycling Safe.”
The Sector Commander assured that the Corps would continue to support programs aligned with the FRSC’s vision of creating a safe motoring environment and achieving zero road traffic deaths.
A representative of the Area One Garki Central Park, Ishaya Ibrahim, urged the FRSC management to assist in checking the sale of alcoholic drinks in motor parks.
According to him, the sale and consumption of illicit substances have become a significant challenge in many motor parks across the Federal Capital Territory FCT.
The National President of ROSOWA, Dr. Nafisat Shehu-Mohammed, led other women’s groups to distribute leaflets and other sensitization materials to educate drivers on the harmful effects of taking hard drugs on their health.
