Senate Confirms Tegbe, Enikanolaiye as Ministers, Tasks Them on Power, Foreign Affairs
The Nigerian Senate has confirmed Mr. Joseph Tegbe from Oyo State and Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye from Kogi State as ministers of the Federal Government of Nigeria.
Their confirmation followed a thorough screening exercise, during which senators asked a series of questions on key issues in the power sector and foreign affairs—ministries they are expected to head to fill the vacuum created by the recent resignations of former ministers.
President Bola Tinubu had, last Tuesday, written to the Senate, requesting the expeditious confirmation of the two nominees.
The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, reminded Mr. Joseph Tegbe that the performance of the power sector remains below the expectations of Nigerians, urging him to deploy his wealth of experience to change the narrative.
Senator Akpabio, who expressed particular concern about entrenched interests in the sector hindering 24-hour electricity supply, conveyed confidence in Mr. Tegbe’s ability to engage the system before putting the confirmation to a voice vote.
Responding to questions from lawmakers, Mr. Joseph Tegbe and Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye assured the Senate that they would justify the confidence reposed in them by President Bola Tinubu and pledged to maintain a close working relationship with the legislature in the discharge of their duties.
