Starmer, Trump Emphasise Urgent Need to Reopen Strait of Hormuz

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and US President Donald Trump have agreed that reopening the Strait of Hormuz is “essential to resume global shipping,” following a phone conversation late Sunday.

The 20-minute discussion, described as “constructive,” took place on the same day Trump shared a satirical video about the British prime minister.

Starmer is expected to later convene a “Cobra” meeting involving Chancellor Rachel Reeves, Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey, and other officials to assess the economic impact of the ongoing conflict.
On Saturday night, Trump issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, warning that failure to comply would result in the US targeting and “obliterating” Iranian power plants, “starting with the biggest one first.”
Meanwhile, the Israel Defense Forces said it anticipates “several more weeks of fighting” against Iran and Hezbollah.
The IDF also confirmed approval of plans to expand its attacks on Hezbollah in Lebanon, heightening concerns over a potential large-scale ground invasion.
