The Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Department of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), in collaboration with the Nigerian Fire Service, on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, conducted a fire drill at the company’s Corporate Headquarters in Abuja to test staff response to emergency evacuation procedures.

The exercise began with the activation of the fire alarm system, prompting staff of TCN, personnel from the Federal Ministry of Power, and visitors to evacuate the building to a designated muster point in a coordinated simulation designed to assess preparedness for fire emergencies.

Speaking after the drill, the General Manager, HSE, Engr. Ahmed Rufai Ibrahim, described the exercise as successful, commending the prompt and orderly response of staff, visitors, management, and emergency responders. He said the drill represents a key step in strengthening emergency readiness at the headquarters.

Also speaking, the Principal Manager (Fire Safety), Mr. Monday Johnson, praised staff for their discipline during evacuation and called for more frequent drills to sustain awareness and improve response capacity.

A representative of the Nigerian Fire Service, Kolade John, who observed the exercise, stressed that fire drills are essential for familiarising occupants of public buildings with evacuation procedures.
