President Bola Tinubu has admonished media organisations against giving unearned platforms to insurgent groups, warning that irresponsible reporting during ongoing security challenges could undermine the country’s stability.

Speaking at the State House Press Corps’ inaugural dinner held at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the President stressed that while his administration remains fully committed to press freedom, constitutional rights must be exercised with a sense of national responsibility, especially in the digital age.

President Tinubu acknowledged the historic role of journalists, including Nigeria’s founding fathers, in the struggle for independence and nation-building. He said he respects the natural tension that exists between government and the media, noting that it is the responsibility of the press to question those in authority and hold them accountable.
He remarked that he is often praised and criticised by the same media organisations within a 24-hour period, describing it as part of the media’s constitutional role.
The President also painted an optimistic picture of Nigeria’s economic direction, declaring that the country has emerged from the dark tunnel of uncertainty through bold fiscal reforms introduced by his administration.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, commended President Tinubu for his support for the media since the inception of his administration.
Alhaji Mohammed Idris said the President’s leadership style demonstrates that Nigeria is moving in the right direction.
