Abuja — Presidential Spokesperson, Dr. Daniel Bwala, has strongly defended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s appointments, governance style, and reform agenda, describing recent ethnic bias allegations as “baseless” and “politically motivated.” Speaking in an exclusive interview with Channels Television on Tuesday night, Dr.

Bwala addressed a wide range of political issues, dismissing what he called “desperate attempts by failed politicians to inflame ethnic sentiments and undermine the government’s achievements.”

Reacting to recent comments by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, accusing President Tinubu of “Yorubanizing” his cabinet, Bwala expressed disappointment, saying:

“It’s unfortunate that Babachir Lawal, who should be an elder statesman, is the one parroting this. They failed in their coalition bid and now need someone to pour their frustration on by playing the ethnic card. Nigerians, especially in the North, strongly endorse President Tinubu’s governance approach and reject these baseless allegations of nepotism.”

FEDERAL CHARACTER FULLY OBSERVED

The President’s image maker stressed that the President’s appointments not only reflect his prerogative to select those he is comfortable working with but also comply with the constitutional requirement of federal character.

He cited prominent appointments to back his point:

National Security Adviser (NSA) — from the North

Minister of Defense and Minister of State for Defense — both from the North

Minister of Foreign Affairs — from the North

Minister of State for Foreign Affairs — from the South East

Minister of State for Petroleum Resources — from the South South

“The President understands Nigeria’s plurality and has satisfied, even exceeded, the constitutional provisions on diversity in appointments,” He noted.

NO ALTERNATIVE TO TINUBU’S LEADERSHIP

According to Dr. Bwala, the opposition has yet to present a credible alternative to President Tinubu’s policies. He praised the administration’s reforms, asserting that they are already producing measurable results acknowledged by reputable local and international organisations.

He highlighted several gains:

Over 300,000 students have accessed the government’s new student loan scheme.

Lower food prices are being recorded in some markets due to targeted agricultural interventions.

State governments are receiving, three folds, the federal allocations they previously earned, enabling them to embark on more ambitious development projects.

“The reforms were never promised to work overnight. Yet, we are already seeing tangible results across sectors,” he said.

PETER OBI AND POLICY CRITICISM

He further singled out Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi as the only opposition figure occasionally addressing policy issues but criticised his arguments as inconsistent.

“Unfortunately, he is doing ‘catch and carry’. Whenever you subject his claims to forensic analysis, they always collapse under the weight of falsehood,” He said.

ON GOODLUCK JONATHAN’S POLITICAL FUTURE

The Presidential Spokesperson also warned against what he described as “unscrupulous political elements” attempting to lure former President Goodluck Jonathan back into partisan politics ahead of 2027.

“These are the same northern elements who opposed him in 2015. Now, they want to use him to fight a battle they can’t win. All major political stakeholders from the South South have already pledged allegiance to President Tinubu,” he stated, questioning how Jonathan could realistically fare against the incumbent.

The Presidential Spokesperson predicted that Tinubu would secure at least two million votes in the South East if elections were held, citing ongoing political realignments and the President’s outreach to the region.

REFORMS REQUIRE PATIENCE

Concluding, Bwala emphasised that President Tinubu’s economic and governance reforms require time to deliver their full impact but have already started showing positive indicators.

“President Tinubu is not a magician. He never promised miracles in 24 hours, but the progress so far is undeniable,” he affirmed.
