A new youth-focused reality TV show, Nigeria House of Commons, has officially premiered on YouTube today, aiming to educate and empower young Nigerians on the workings of governance and legislative processes.

Launched by Africana League, a civic organisation committed to raising a new generation of patriotic and capable leaders, the show is designed to bridge the gap between youth and political participation ahead of the 2027 general elections. The 13-episode series will air exclusively on YouTube via the Nigeria House of Commons channel.

The show features contestants simulating the roles of federal lawmakers, each representing one of Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Participants are grouped into two fictional political parties with distinct ideological identities. Weekly episodes will mirror real-life parliamentary proceedings, including the drafting and presentation of motions, policy debates, caucus meetings, and live voting sessions.

Audience engagement is central to the show’s format. Viewers are encouraged to participate in real-time decision-making processes—such as voting, polling, and live commentary—through Africana League’s official platform: https://www.africanaleague.org/.

Founder and Executive Director of Africana League, Glory Ukwenga, said the show was born out of the need to use entertainment as a tool to drive political awareness among young people.

“We are excited to launch a TV show that gives young Nigerians a firsthand look at the lawmaking process in Nigeria. As an organisation committed to educating youths on politics and governance, we created this show to empower them and to dismantle the myths around access to political participation,” Ukwenga stated.

Nigeria House of Commons is not just a reality show but also a civic education initiative, aimed at demystifying governance and challenging the entrenched elitism in Nigerian politics.

The series is now streaming on YouTube, with new episodes dropping weekly. Interested viewers are urged to subscribe to the channel and register on the official platform to support and vote for their favourite participants.
