To encourage investment in food production across Nigeria, the Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to strengthening food security through strategic partnerships with development agencies.

The Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof. Joseph Utsev, made this known while receiving the newly appointed Country Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to Nigeria, Dr. Gadain Hussein, and his delegation in Abuja.

According to a statement signed by the Director of Information and Public Relations in the Ministry, Mrs. Funmi Imuetinyan, President Bola Tinubu remains firmly committed to enhancing food production across the country.

The statement further assured the FAO delegation of the Ministry’s readiness, particularly through its Department of Irrigation and Drainage, to fully collaborate with FAO in advancing food production in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.

It also emphasized that the FAO’s Hand-in-Hand Initiative and the upcoming Investment Summit in Abuja will serve as vital platforms to bring together investors and key stakeholders to fast-track national food security efforts.

Speaking during the meeting, the newly appointed FAO Country Representative, Dr. Gadain Hussein, pointed out that agriculture accounts for nearly 90% of available water resource use, noting that the ministry plays a crucial role in the successful implementation of FAO’s Hand-in-Hand Initiative.
