FG Approves New Salary Structure, Improved Conditions of Service for NiMet Workers
The Federal Government has approved a new salary structure and enhanced conditions of service for workers of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), in a move aimed at improving staff welfare and operational efficiency.
The approval was conveyed in an official letter issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and addressed to the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission.
Dated April 29, 2026, and referenced No. 58957/S.2/T1/40, the letter was signed by Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, Permanent Secretary, General Services, on behalf of the SGF.
Titled “Re-Request for Salary Relativity Implementation in the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet),” the correspondence confirmed that the new consolidated salary structure for NiMet staff will take effect from June 1, 2026.
“I am directed to convey that the Secretary to the Government of the Federation has approved the recommended consolidated salary structure for NiMet with an effective date of June 1, 2026,” the letter stated.
It further disclosed that the government also approved an updated condition of service for NiMet employees, describing both measures as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the agency’s workforce framework.
A staff member of the agency, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to lack of authorisation to comment publicly, welcomed the development and commended the agency’s leadership under Charles Anosike.
The staff described the approvals as “significant milestones” that would positively impact the morale and welfare of employees, noting that improved remuneration and working conditions are critical to boosting productivity within the agency.
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency plays a key role in providing weather and climate information for aviation, agriculture, disaster management, and other sectors of the Nigerian economy.
The latest approval is expected to enhance staff motivation and support the agency’s mandate of delivering accurate and timely meteorological services nationwide.
