Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have clamped down on bandits seeking to disrupt peace in the Amaafu Iwer area of Benue State, neutralising two and recovering an automatic firearm.

In a statement signed by the Acting Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force OPWS, Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu, the troops recorded the success during a combined confidence-building and fighting patrol along the Katsina-Ala–Zaki Biam Road.

Zubairu explained that the troops, acting on credible intelligence provided by local residents, swiftly mobilised to the area in collaboration with operatives of the Benue State Civil Protection Guard (CPG).
On arrival at the identified location, the troops made contact with the suspected bandits. During the ensuing engagement, two of the suspects were neutralised, while others escaped into the surrounding bush, possibly with gunshot wounds.
He added that the troops subsequently exploited the area and recovered one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine, eight rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and a pair of green camouflage uniform abandoned by the fleeing criminals.
The Force Commander of OPWS, Major General Moses Gara, commended the gallantry, professionalism, and swift response of the troops, noting that their proactive posture and dedication to duty continue to produce positive outcomes in the fight against terrorism and banditry.
Major General Gara also appreciated members of the local communities for providing timely and actionable intelligence, describing it as vital to operational success.
He encouraged residents to sustain their cooperation with security agencies and assured them of the military’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
The commander further urged troops to maintain the established synergy with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders, stressing that collective efforts remain crucial to achieving lasting security and stability across the Joint Operations Area.
