The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has urged Muslims across Nigeria to begin searching for the crescent moon that will mark the end of Ramadan and the start of Shawwal.

In a statement, the Sultanate Council set today, Wednesday, March 18, 2026, as the day for the moon sighting and called on Muslims who spot the crescent to report to the nearest District or Village Head, who will relay the information to the Sultanate Council for verification.

It notes that dedicated phone lines have also been provided for reporting credible sightings directly to the Sultan’s office.
The statement emphasizes that the verified sighting will determine the official date for Eid al-Fitr prayers and nationwide celebrations.
