2027: Ortom Clears Air, Denies Senate Ambition Again
From Dooshima Terkura, Makurdi
The immediate past Governor of Benue State, Chief Samuel Ortom, has once again dismissed rumours suggesting he plans to contest for a Senate seat in the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued by his Media Adviser and Consultant, Terver Akase, Ortom described the claim as entirely false and urged the public to ignore it.
The statement noted: “Our attention has been drawn to yet another imaginative piece of fiction circulating on social media, alleging that the immediate past Governor of Benue State, Chief Samuel Ortom, has declared his intention to run for the Benue North-West Senatorial seat in 2027.”
It continued: “Ordinarily, such an unfounded story would not warrant a response. However, to prevent members of the public from mistaking fiction for fact, it has become necessary to clarify the situation.”
According to the statement, Chief Ortom has no plans to contest any elective position in 2027, stressing that he has made this position clear on several occasions.
The former governor reiterated his commitment to supporting democratic values, strengthening his political party, and providing statesmanlike guidance, rather than seeking elective office.
He also expressed appreciation to supporters, friends, and party members for their concern and messages since the rumour surfaced, urging the public to regard the report as nothing more than a fabrication.
