The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the Nigeria Police have reaffirmed their commitment to tackling vandalism amid rising concerns over attacks on telecommunications towers.

The initiative is aimed at safeguarding telecom infrastructure through a renewed security partnership with the Police.

As part of this effort, the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, Dr.
Aminu Maida, alongside the Board Chairman, Idris Olorunnimbe, paid a working visit on Monday to the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, at the Force Headquarters, Louis Edet House.
The meeting focused on strengthening inter-agency collaboration to address vandalism and other security threats targeting telecom facilities.
Central to the discussions was the implementation of the Presidential Order that designates telecommunications assets as Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII), a legal framework established to ensure their protection under Nigerian law.
Both parties emphasized the need for a coordinated approach, noting that disruptions to communication networks pose serious risks to national security, economic stability, and public safety.
The NCC leadership reiterated its dedication to working closely with security agencies to guarantee uninterrupted telecom services across the country.
In response, the Inspector-General of Police assured the Commission of the Force’s full backing in enforcing the CNII directive and combating crimes against telecom infrastructure.
The engagement highlights increasing collaboration between regulatory and security institutions as Nigeria seeks to strengthen its security architecture and protect assets vital to national development.
