The Emptiness Of Coffin
Until one gets to this point, the point that reduces one into an object, lying very stiff and supine, carried through a procession, cry and wailing renting the air, still ones remains unmoved, unknowning and unconcerned, only then that the deep message around vanity upon Vanity sinks.
We would all go through this route, nothing stops it.
It can only be delayed. While alive, the sight of the coffin of someone however besotted one is to them, shouldn’t be a moment of pity, grieve and empathy for the deceased, they have gone and the affairs of this earth bleak and inaudible to them; but more of a deliberate check of how ones life would end and how ones coffin would equally be carried.Every coffin is a potential resting place for humans. However beautifully made, gold plated, it doesn’t stand on an elevated platform for endless admiration. It gets down, covered either with sand or slab and the space in there just enough for ones unconscious remains. No gold, no money, no houses, no children, no wife, no title etc just ones remains that gets decomposed in a jiffy, what a life!!
Here lies the remains of a friend, a classmate. A jolly good fellow, whose sense of compassion and empathy wasn’t noisy but actionable. But he is gone and his chapter closed.
Nobody is good enough to have people keep staring at their chapters closed by death. When an interesting chapter is closed by death nobody dwells on such chapter. Once in a while references can be made, but no more the main chapter that demands concentration. Life moves on , attention shifted and allegiance realigned soon.
While alive, make the best impact, touch lives the best way possible , be intentional in taking good care of yourself if you have the means. Create a unceasing moment of fellowship with God, build the spiritual muscles of your soul, the only thing that endures.
Be whatever you would want to be, however, never joke with your daily preparation for this journey that must be, only God knows when . Nothing is too precious to make your life empty in godliness.
Never allow the noise of ones environment, the echoes of the bitting and strangulating economic realities and the crave to meet up with the pace and momentum of ones peers and colleagues make you derail and your hands soiled. Only at this moment of an empty coffin that the emptiness of such desires become crystal clear.
Goodbye Gerry! Your journey started the very day you breathed your last, where you are, only God knows. May his mercy find you and rest your soul in his bossom.
