Abuja Crackdown: FCCPC Enforces Action Against Non-Compliant Real Estate Developer

To protect the interests of consumers in the nation’s real estate sector, the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has sealed three estates owned by a private developer, Paradise Company, located in Life Camp, Dutse, and Dawaki in the Federal Capital Territory.

The action followed the developer’s failure to hand over properties to buyers after three years of full payment.

Leading the FCCPC enforcement team during the operation in Abuja, the Deputy Director of Surveillance and Investigations, Mr. Marvin Nadah, stated that the move was carried out in accordance with the FCCP Act 2018.
Mr. Nadah explained that the Commission had served notices to the developer as far back as February 24, 2026, but the company failed to comply, prompting the sealing of the estates.
“The complaints received went through our redress process, after which the Commission issued a directive ordering Paradise Estate to hand over properties already paid for by consumers for over three years. Their failure to comply with that directive, issued under Section 150 of the FCCP Act 2018, led to this enforcement action,” he said.
He further emphasized that despite being given seven days to comply after the notice was served, the developer failed to act, even though the affected consumers had completed their payments.
Reiterating the Commission’s stance, Mr. Nadah noted that FCCPC would continue to monitor and regulate the activities of estate developers to prevent exploitation of consumers.
He also revealed that the Commission has received several complaints against some developers and urged Nigerians to report cases of default in the real estate sector for appropriate redress.
“The Commission is available to address complaints of illegal practices by any company. Government cannot sit back while consumers are exploited or misled. Consumers must also remain vigilant and verify claims made by developers to avoid being taken advantage of,” he added.
Mr. Nadah reaffirmed FCCPC’s commitment to protecting Nigerian consumers and called for the cooperation of stakeholders in achieving the Commission’s mandate.
Reacting to the development, the Head of Legal at Paradise Estate, Mr. Aluxius Ezenwa, disclosed that the matter is already before a tribunal in Abuja and assured that the company is willing to resolve all issues surrounding the case.
