Tinubu Orders EFCC to Unfreeze Osun Accounts Ahead of Poll

President Bola Tinubu has directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to return to court and vacate the order freezing the bank accounts of the Osun State Government.

The directive follows an order obtained by the anti-graft agency on August 5, 2026, restricting the state’s finances.
President Tinubu expressed concern over the timing of the action, noting that it came just days before the Osun State governorship election.
While acknowledging that the Federal Government does not interfere with the statutory operations of anti-corruption agencies, the President said public interest made it necessary for him to intervene. He stressed that preserving public confidence, credibility and fairness in the electoral process must remain a priority.
President Tinubu reaffirmed his commitment to the rule of law and democratic governance, and directed the EFCC to take immediate steps to lift the restriction on the Osun State Government’s accounts.
