The Working People United (WOPU), a group of professionals across different sectors, has declared its support for the re-election bid of President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

The National Coordinator-General of WOPU, Mr.
William Akporeha, made this known at the conclusion of the inaugural meeting of the group’s National Working Committee (NWC) held on Tuesday in Abuja.

Akporeha explained that the decision was informed by what he described as the impactful policies of the Tinubu administration on members of the group and Nigerians as a whole.
He commended the NWC for its achievements in mass mobilisation and the digital registration of members nationwide.
According to him, the group has recorded over one million registrations across the country through its digital platforms and is preparing to hold its inaugural summit later in May.
“The summit will highlight the achievements of the administration and create an avenue for interaction between the government and working Nigerians.
“It will also showcase government activities and offer a platform for working people to present their expectations,” he said.
Akporeha further stated that the NWC had resolved to commence the inauguration of WOPU chapters in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as part of efforts to mobilise support for Tinubu’s re-election.
He encouraged Nigerians to participate actively in the group’s programmes, expressing confidence that the current challenges facing the country are temporary.
“Though there is temporary pain, we believe the gains will outweigh the challenges and bring progress to Nigeria,” he added.
Akporeha also noted that the group believes Tinubu’s re-election would help consolidate ongoing reforms and promote further economic growth and development.
In his remarks, the WOPU National Public Relations Officer, Mr. Segun Eso, reiterated the group’s support for Tinubu’s second-term bid.
He said the endorsement was based on the group’s evaluation of the administration’s performance so far.
“We are convinced by what the President has achieved within his first tenure, and we believe supporting him for a second term is the best way forward,” he said.
Eso acknowledged that some government policies have posed challenges but described them as necessary for long-term benefits.
He identified the removal of fuel subsidy as a significant step taken in the interest of the economy.
“For progress to be achieved, some level of sacrifice is required.
“The subsidy removal is one of such decisions aimed at strengthening the economy,” Eso added.
He urged Nigerians to support the government’s efforts in tackling insecurity and boosting economic growth.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the meeting was attended by members of the group, including Nigerians in the diaspora, who pledged their support for Tinubu’s re-election. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
