TCN Announces Seven-Hour Power Outage in Iwo, Bowen University Communities for Transformer Maintenance
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a temporary power interruption in parts of Osun State following scheduled annual maintenance on a critical power transformer at the Iwo Transmission Substation.
In a notice issued on Thursday by TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the company said routine maintenance would be carried out on the 40MVA 132/33kV power transformer at the Iwo Transmission Substation from 10:00 a.
m. to 5:00 p.m. on June 4, 2026.According to the transmission utility, the exercise forms part of its ongoing efforts to ensure the reliability, efficiency, and stability of Nigeria’s power transmission network.
As a result of the maintenance work, the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) will be unable to receive power supply from the substation for the duration of the exercise, leading to a seven-hour outage in affected areas.
The affected communities include Iwo Town, Bowen University, and Rabbish, where electricity consumers are expected to experience temporary disruption in power supply during the maintenance period.
TCN assured customers that the planned outage is necessary to enhance the operational performance of the transformer and improve long-term service delivery.
The company appealed for understanding from residents and businesses in the affected locations, while expressing regret over the inconvenience the temporary power interruption may cause.
“TCN apologises for any inconvenience this will cause electricity consumers in the affected areas,” the notice stated.
The maintenance exercise is part of the company’s periodic preventive maintenance programme aimed at strengthening transmission infrastructure and reducing the risk of equipment failure across the national grid.
