Former Benue State Commissioner for Finance, Dr. David Olofu, has emerged as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) senatorial candidate for Benue South Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Dr. Olofu emerged as the consensus candidate of the party following primaries conducted across the nine local government areas in the district. His candidature was officially affirmed in Otukpo on Sunday.

Announcing the result, the ADC Returning Officer, Barrister Ogah Ekwu, said Dr. Olofu fulfilled all constitutional requirements of the party and received unanimous endorsement across the zone.
According to Ekwu, Dr. Olofu was returned as the sole candidate and duly elected ADC senatorial flagbearer for Benue South after satisfying all party conditions.
Speaking after his emergence, Dr. Olofu described the victory as one belonging to the people of Benue South, promising an inclusive style of leadership that would accommodate all interests and stakeholders in the district.
He stated that representation for the zone would no longer operate as “a one-man show,” adding that he plans to establish a “Benue South People’s Assembly” and a “Benue South People’s Council” to strengthen consultation, unity, and collective decision-making.
The former commissioner also identified security as his top priority if elected, noting that insecurity had continued to affect the agricultural strength and economic potential of the district.
He said the protection of lives and communities would form the foundation of his agenda, beginning with efforts to restore security and revive the region’s agricultural economy.
Dr. Olofu further outlined his vision for the district as building a secure Benue South where lives and livelihoods are protected, agriculture and businesses flourish, education is strengthened, infrastructure is improved, and governance remains accountable and people-oriented.
He assured party members that no group would be excluded, stressing that unity, inclusion, and purposeful representation would shape his senatorial ambition.
The declaration was witnessed by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, and members of the media.
