By Iyojo Ameh
The National Biotechnology & Research Development Agency (BDRDA) has approved the allocation of land for the La_Shipson Pharmaceutical Project, in a move expected to boost Nigeria’s capacity for local drug manufacturing and healthcare innovation.
The approval was granted to La_Shipson Pharmaceutical Ltd after the completion of regulatory procedures and technical assessments by the agency, paving the way for the development of a modern pharmaceutical production and research facility.
Chief Executive Officer of the company, Moses Godia Shipi, described the development as a major breakthrough for Nigeria’s health sector. He said the project would significantly reduce the country’s reliance on imported medicines while strengthening national health security.
According to him, the facility will focus on the production of essential medicines, vaccines, and biotechnology products, while also creating employment opportunities and enabling technology transfer.
The proposed site will house production lines designed to meet international Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards, alongside research and development laboratories dedicated to biotechnology and drug discovery.
The BDRDA, a parastatal under the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, is mandated to drive biotechnology advancement and support indigenous innovation in Nigeria’s pharmaceutical sector.
The La_Shipson Pharmaceutical Project is positioned as a strategic initiative aimed at delivering affordable, high-quality medicines to Nigerians and the wider West African region.
