Jonathan to Address Global Security Summit in Abuja, Receives DICAN Peace Award
Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has confirmed his participation in the forthcoming Diplomatic, Security, Trade, and Investment International Conference in Abuja, where he will receive the DICAN International Award for Statesmanship and Global Peace.
The conference, organised by the Diplomatic Correspondents Association of Nigeria (DICAN), is scheduled to hold on May 20, 2026, at the Rotunda Hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja.
This year’s summit is themed: “Information Warfare (FIMI): Strengthening Global Security, Trade, and Investment Through Collaborative Truth: Role of Diplomacy, Intelligence, and Media.”
According to organisers, Jonathan accepted the award in recognition of what they described as his commitment to democracy, peacebuilding, and statesmanship across Africa and beyond.
The former president is expected to deliver a keynote address focusing on global peace and security challenges arising from Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (FIMI), disinformation, and fake news.
Chairman of DICAN, Idehai Frederick, said Jonathan’s participation adds credibility and significance to the conference.
“President Goodluck Jonathan’s acceptance of this award and his decision to address the assembly underscores the immense credibility of this platform,” Frederick said.
“His enduring legacy as a champion of Nigerian, African, and global democracy makes him the definitive voice to speak on safeguarding global peace against the tide of disinformation.”
The high-level summit is being organised in collaboration with the Centre for Communications, Development, and Diplomacy in Africa and is expected to attract more than 100 diplomatic missions and international stakeholders.
Among those expected at the event are Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, senior diplomats, ambassadors from the United States, China, Spain, and the European Union, as well as representatives of security agencies, intelligence institutions, corporate organisations, civil society groups, and United Nations bodies.
The conference will also serve as a launch platform for a global campaign against disinformation, fake news, and information warfare.
Other notable speakers expected at the summit include Ndudi Elumelu, Henry Ifeanyi Mbadiwe of the Chartered Institute of Project Managers of Nigeria, and Nonye Ayeni, Executive Director of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council.
Organisers said the event would conclude with an awards ceremony honouring institutions and individuals for contributions to national development, including Nigerian airline Air Peace.
