Binani Joins NDC, Says Move Driven by Ideals and Supporters’ Interest
Former Adamawa governorship candidate, Aishatu Dahiru Binani, has said her decision to defect to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) was informed by her alignment with the party’s ideals and the collective will of her supporters.
Speaking during her formal reception into the party, Senator Dahiru-Binani explained that her move followed a careful review of the NDC’s constitution, which she said demonstrates a strong commitment to structured and policy-driven governance.
She reiterated that the party reflects a firm dedication to organized and policy-focused leadership.
Addressing speculations about her recent political movements, the former lawmaker dismissed such claims, noting that her actions were guided by prevailing political realities and the interests of her support base.
“Politics is dynamic and often shaped by prevailing circumstances. I will never condemn where I came from, but my foremost priority remains the interest of my supporters,” she said.
She further disclosed that her supporters had already begun mobilizing within the NDC prior to her official defection.
According to her, Adamawa State now ranks among the states with the highest number of registered NDC members, attributing this to sustained grassroots engagement.
Senator Dahiru-Binani also expressed gratitude to the party leadership for welcoming her and her supporters, pledging to contribute meaningfully to the growth of the party.
She stressed that fairness, equity, justice, transparency, and internal democracy remain essential for the party’s success.
Speaking at the event, the National Leader of the NDC, Seriake Dickson, urged women and youths to take ownership of the party.
“For too long, women are remembered only during campaigns and neglected after elections. That must change. This is your party—come and take ownership,” he stated.
He also encouraged young people to seize the opportunity, describing the NDC as an open and inclusive platform.
Dickson announced that Binani would lead the party’s structure in Adamawa State and called on politicians across the country to join the NDC.
“Politics is a journey. If your current platform is no longer taking you to your destination, you have every right to move. The NDC is that better vehicle,” he added.
Earlier, the National Chairman, Moses Cleopas, reaffirmed that the party is founded on ideology, unity, and inclusiveness, emphasizing its commitment to politics rooted in conviction, integrity, and service to the people.
Also speaking, the NDC National Women Leader, Dudu Manuga, described Binani’s entry into the party as a significant milestone.
“No woman, no nation. No woman, no progress. This is the party for Nigerian women,” she said, while pledging support for female aspirants.
