Coalition of United Political Parties, Denies Supporting APC, Decries Worsening State of Nation
By our Correspondent
The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has strongly condemned what it described as attempts by certain elements within the All Progressives Congress (APC) governments to distort facts and undermine the coalition’s position on the worsening state of affairs and the dwindling fortunes of the Nigerian masses.
CUPP, in a statement, described as false and unauthorized the purported endorsement of the APC administration’s achievements in infrastructure development, particularly the Abuja–Lokoja–Benin highways, which it noted remain in deplorable condition.
The statement, signed by Barr. Chukwudi Ezeobika, Chairman of the Media Committee of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) and former National Legal Adviser of the Inter-Party Advisory Council of Nigeria (IPAC), was made available to journalists in Abuja.
According to Ezeobika, the coalition’s attention was drawn to reports in several news media, including The Punch newspaper, alleging that CUPP had endorsed the Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led APC government for progress in infrastructural development.
He clarified that the coalition neither authorized nor sanctioned any inspection of road projects, nor did it approve or endorse any publication to that effect.
> “On the contrary, the Coalition is deeply concerned about the acute and deplorable state of basic road infrastructure across the length and breadth of the federation,” the statement read.
CUPP criticized the Tinubu administration’s failure to provide quality road and rail infrastructure, describing it as clear evidence of ineptitude and lack of vision. It said the administration’s incompetence has resulted in the loss of lives and property, as well as increased cases of kidnappings and other criminal activities on the nation’s highways.
The coalition further lamented the federal government’s continued external borrowings without corresponding improvements in critical sectors such as roads, health, education, electricity, and security.
Ezeobika concluded that with these failures, the Tinubu-led APC administration remains the worst democratic government Nigeria has experienced since the return to civilian rule in 1999.
