Davido’s threats came from anger, not intent — Tiwa Savage
Afrobeats star, Tiwa Savage, has clarified that her colleague, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, only threatened her out of anger and did not truly mean the things he said.
Speaking in a recent interview on The Breakfast Club, Savage explained that despite their public fallout, she still holds Davido in high regard.
“I think it was a miscommunication. I think out of anger, maybe he might have made threats,” she said.
She revealed that her decision to file a police report was merely a precautionary step to protect herself and not an act of hostility.
According to her, while she doesn’t believe Davido would act on those threats, she could not ignore the possibility of others taking action based on his words.
“He might have made threats. Do I think he was really going to go ahead with it? No. But again, I’m not taking any risks. You could be saying it around people who may want to act out on what you’re saying,” she explained.
Before resorting to official measures, Tiwa said she had attempted to settle the matter quietly by reaching out to Davido’s older family members to help mediate, but received no response.
“Before I did that, though, I reached out to members of his family. I’m not going to say names, but people that are older than him, and I said, ‘Okay, I’m hearing threats, can we solve this?’ and none of them came back to me. Just for the record, before I do anything, can we solve this?” she added.
Despite the tension, Tiwa Savage reaffirmed her love and respect for Davido, describing him as a brother and stressing that she would never betray him or take sides against him.
“I haven’t spoken to you, David, but I do want you to know that I love you and I would never betray you or take sides,” she said.
The disagreement between the two singers began in January 2024, after Tiwa Savage posted a photo with Davido’s first baby mama, Sophia Momodu, on social media amid the singer’s child custody battle with Sophia.
