Dumebi Kachikwu Rejects ADC Factional Convention, Insists on Rule of Law

The crisis within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has intensified as a former presidential candidate of the party, Dumebi Kachikwu, rejected a convention recently conducted by a faction, describing it as a breach of an existing court order.
Addressing journalists in Abuja, Kachikwu explained that a Federal High Court had earlier instructed all parties involved in the leadership tussle to maintain the status quo until the matter is resolved, effectively barring any congresses or conventions.

He lamented that despite the court’s directive, certain members went ahead with the exercise, raising serious concerns about compliance with the rule of law and discipline within the party.
Kachikwu warned that such disregard for legal directives could worsen the internal crisis and weaken democratic principles, emphasizing that respect for the law is essential for political stability.
Speaking on the wider political environment, he advised opposition groups to concentrate on offering meaningful alternatives and policy-based solutions to the country’s challenges, instead of engaging in unnecessary political conflicts.
He also cautioned against actions that could heighten political tensions, noting that Nigeria’s delicate socio-political climate requires careful and responsible handling.
Kachikwu affirmed that the ADC leadership committed to due process would proceed with plans for its convention strictly in line with legal provisions.
Additionally, he urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to focus on fostering national unity and promoting inclusive governance, stressing the importance of bridging divisions and restoring public trust in leadership.
He concluded by reiterating that respect for the rule of law and responsible political behavior are vital for protecting Nigeria’s democracy.
