Senator Orzi Uzor Kalu

A university lecturer, Professor Kalu Eni, has described Senator Orji Uzor Kalu’s sustained investment in education, youth development and women empowerment as the most effective and enduring form of empowerment, saying it delivers long-term benefits that go beyond material handouts.

In an article published on an electronic media platform on Monday, Professor Eni commended the former Abia State governor for his consistent commitment to human capital development across the Abia North Senatorial District.
He said Kalu’s educational interventions have reached virtually every community in the district through the construction of school buildings, renovation of learning facilities and the distribution of educational materials.
According to the professor, the former governor has built school structures in nearly every ward in Abia North and provided textbooks, school desks, office furniture, school uniforms and other learning materials. He noted that such investments directly benefit children, whom he described as the future of the senatorial district and Abia State, making education the most meaningful form of empowerment.
Professor Eni further praised Kalu for extending educational opportunities beyond Nigeria, revealing that many young people from Abia North have benefited from overseas academic and capacity-building programmes facilitated by the senator. He said dozens of youths are studying medicine, science, technology and business in different parts of the world, while more than 100 youths and women have received specialised training in China through Kalu’s support.
He stressed that genuine empowerment is not about distributing handouts or motorcycles but about providing people with knowledge, skills and opportunities that can transform their lives and communities. According to him, such investments build capacity, create opportunities and prepare beneficiaries for the future.
Since assuming office as the senator representing Abia North in 2019, Orji Uzor Kalu has undertaken various interventions in education, infrastructure, healthcare and youth development across the district’s five local government areas. These include the construction and renovation of schools and classroom blocks, distribution of textbooks, school uniforms, desks and other instructional materials, scholarships, overseas training opportunities, road projects, rural electrification, healthcare initiatives, industrial projects and other empowerment programmes aimed at improving livelihoods.
The senator has consistently maintained that investment in education and human capital remains one of the most sustainable strategies for reducing poverty, expanding opportunities and promoting economic growth in Abia North and beyond.
