Emir of Zuru, Gen. Sani Sami, Passes Away in London at 81
The Emir of Zuru in Kebbi State, Major General Sani Sami (Rtd.), popularly known as Gomo II, has passed away in London at the age of 81 after a brief illness.
His family confirmed the monarch’s death on Sunday, describing him as a leader who successfully combined an illustrious military career with decades of dedicated service to his people.
Born on October 24, 1943, the late Emir enlisted in the Nigerian Army on December 10, 1962. He received his military training at the Mons Officer Cadet School, Aldershot, United Kingdom, and was commissioned on July 25, 1963.
Throughout his career, Sani Sami served with distinction, rising through the ranks and holding key appointments, including Commander of the Brigade of Guards during the administration of General Murtala Mohammed, and later as Military Governor of Bauchi State in December 1983.
Following his retirement from the army, he returned to his hometown and ascended the throne as Emir of Zuru. He was widely respected as a hardworking, humble, and disciplined ruler, committed to preserving the traditions and cultural heritage of his emirate.
The Zuru Emirate Council announced that funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course.
