Fight terror, protect lives — Army Chief gives new recruits a dual mission.
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has charged newly graduated soldiers of the 90 Regular Recruit Intake to confront terrorism, banditry, and other security threats with courage, discipline, and professionalism.
Speaking at the Passing Out Parade held on Saturday at the Depot Nigerian Army in Zaria, Kaduna State, the Army Chief said the recruits had undergone intensive military training, including Counter-Terrorism and Counter-Insurgency operations, preparing them to contribute effectively to ongoing efforts aimed at securing the country.
He emphasized that the Nigerian Army remains committed to dismantling criminal networks and denying terrorists safe operating spaces. However, he stressed that all military operations must be conducted in accordance with established Rules of Engagement and international humanitarian laws.
Gen. Shaibu urged the soldiers to maintain discipline both on and off the battlefield, cautioning against the irresponsible use of social media. He noted that careless online conduct and the unauthorized sharing of sensitive information could undermine military operations and national security objectives.
According to a statement issued by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, the COAS reminded the recruits that Nigerians depend on the Armed Forces for protection and expect them to serve with integrity, loyalty, and respect for constitutional values.
He also acknowledged the support of President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in strengthening the operational capabilities of the military and improving its readiness to address security challenges.
Reaffirming the Army’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, Shaibu stated that the newly inducted soldiers would be deployed to support ongoing operations aimed at restoring peace, stability, and security across the country.
