FRSC to Begin Nationwide Free Vehicle Checks
By our Correspondent
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced plans to commence nationwide free vehicle checks aimed at identifying and correcting mechanical deficiencies before vehicles hit the road.
Corps Marshal Mallam Shehu Mohammed disclosed this while addressing journalists in Abuja during the flag-off of the 2025 Ember Months Campaign. He said the initiative is part of measures to curb road accidents and ensure smooth traffic flow during the period, which runs until mid-January 2026.
According to the Corps Marshal, the FRSC has mapped out high-traffic routes across the country, with adequate personnel and logistics to be deployed for effective traffic management.
In line with the Corps’ vision for safer roads during the Ember period, Mohammed said the FRSC will intensify public enlightenment campaigns at major motor parks, engage stakeholders, and hold town hall meetings to educate motorists on the importance of obeying traffic rules and regulations.
He also revealed that the Corps would soon begin contactless biometric capture with on-the-spot printing of driver’s licences, which will eliminate temporary licences and usher in a fully digitized one-stop system for licence processing.
Mohammed explained that the move is designed to make the collection of driver’s licences more seamless. He commended the Federal Government for its continued support, which, he noted, has contributed to the Corps’ successes this year.
He added that the introduction of technology into FRSC operations has significantly improved efficiency nationwide and called for public cooperation to ensure safer roads.
The theme for this year’s Ember Months Campaign is “Take Responsibility for Your Safety.”
