Gov Mutfwang Urges Citizens to Uphold Unity, Peace, and Cultural Heritage By David Odama
Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has once again underscored the need for unity, peace, and the preservation of cultural heritage among citizens, reiterating his administration’s commitment to promoting harmony and peaceful coexistence across the state.
The Governor made the call on Sunday during the 2025 Wusal Berom Service held at Mararaban Jama’a, Jos South Local Government Area.
The event was organized by the Berom Language and Translation Board (BLTB).According to a statement signed by Bere Gyang, his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Governor Mutfwang, while addressing a large gathering of worshippers, traditional rulers, clergy, and political leaders, expressed gratitude to God and to the Berom people for their steadfast support. He fondly recalled that the prayers offered during the 2022 Wusal Berom preceded his emergence as Governor.
> “I remember coming here for Wusal Berom 2022, and you prayed for me. Today, by the grace of God, I am the Governor of Plateau State. I thank you for giving me the privilege to walk in the footsteps of our father and the father of modern Plateau, Da Jonah Jang,” he said.
Governor Mutfwang commended the clergy for fostering love and brotherhood among the people, noting that unity and mutual respect remain the foundation for the state’s collective progress.
> “We are brothers and sisters under God. That is the spirit we must nurture — a united Plateau pursuing God’s purpose for our existence,” he emphasized.
He further reaffirmed his respect for traditional institutions, particularly the revered stool of the Gbong Gwom Jos, describing it as “a Plateau stool, not just a Berom stool.” The Governor assured continued government support to traditional leadership structures to promote peace, stability, and harmony across the state.
In a significant show of support, the Governor announced a donation of ₦10 million to the Berom Bible Translation Trust for producing audio Bibles for the elderly, and ₦20 million to the Berom Women’s Association (BIDA) to empower widows and vulnerable women. He also pledged ₦100 million as seed funding for the development of the proposed Wusal Berom Arena, promising full government collaboration for its realization.
Addressing the youths, Governor Mutfwang cautioned them against being used on social media to attack leaders, reminding them that “power belongs to God, and He gives it to whom He wills.” He urged them to embrace the politics of collaboration and development rather than conflict, stressing that Plateau’s progress must transcend partisan divides.
Earlier, goodwill messages were delivered by former Governor Sen. Jonah David Jang, who praised Governor Mutfwang’s humility and people-oriented leadership, and by His Royal Highness, Da Edward Gyang Bot, representing the Gbong Gwom Jos, who commended the Governor’s commitment to peace, inclusivity, and cultural preservation.
Other dignitaries at the event included Senator Pam Mwadkon Dachungyang, Hon. (Dr.) Bernard Doro, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, representatives of the APC National Chairman, and several political, religious, and traditional leaders.
Chairman of the Wusal Berom 2025 Planning Committee, Rev. Daniel Saje, appreciated all stakeholders for their immense contributions to the success of the event. A major highlight of the ceremony was the unveiling of the proposed Wusal Berom Arena, symbolizing a new chapter of unity, cultural revival, and progress for the Berom Nation and Plateau State.
