Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has removed Sunusi Surajo-Kwankwaso from his position as Political Adviser, citing unsatisfactory performance.

The decision was announced in a statement released on Saturday, January 24, 2026, by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature.

According to the statement, the action followed a review of the activities of the Office of the Political Adviser, which revealed that it fell short of the administration’s expectations.

Governor Yusuf explained that the removal was necessary to protect the integrity of his government and restore harmony, noting that rising tensions and internal divisions had been linked to the conduct of the former adviser.
He reaffirmed that loyalty, discipline, and effective performance remain the core values guiding his administration.
Meanwhile, the governor has approved the appointment of Mustapha Bakwana as the new Political Adviser. Yusuf expressed confidence in Bakwana’s dedication, professionalism, and capacity to effectively discharge the responsibilities of the office.
