Botswana social media influencer, Lesedi Molapisi, has reportedly been executed in Bangladesh following her conviction for drug trafficking.

Molapisi was arrested in 2022 at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Bangladesh after authorities found her in possession of 3.145kg of heroin. She was subsequently tried, convicted, and sentenced to death in 2024.

Following her sentencing, little was heard about her case, and her once-active social media presence went silent, fueling speculation that she was being held in a condemned cell.

However, recent reports have emerged, confirming that Molapisi was executed on November 25, 2024, after her appeal against the death penalty was unsuccessful. According to South African news outlet Kaya, the Botswana government had provided financial assistance to her family for the appeal process, but it ultimately failed.

The news of her execution resurfaced after an X (formerly Twitter) user, @Iamjosh, revisited her case while commenting on the consequences of crime. Quoting a post Molapisi made in January 2022, which read, “Catch flights and not feelings,” the user remarked:

“Do you remember this babe? Her name was Lesedi Molapisi from Botswana. She was apprehended in 2022 at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Bangladesh in possession of 3.145kg of heroin. She was sentenced to death and executed last year in May.”

Her story has reignited debates on drug trafficking and the severe penalties imposed in some countries. Many social media users have reacted to the news, with some calling for greater awareness about the dangers of drug smuggling, while others criticized the harshness of Bangladesh’s anti-drug laws.

As of now, there has been no official confirmation from the Botswana government regarding the reported execution.
