NAWOJ Hails National Auditor Jemila Abubakar on Election as WAANSA Nigeria President

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has congratulated its National Auditor and Assistant Director at the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Jemila Abubakar, on her election as President of the West African Action Network on Small Arms (WAANSA) Nigeria.
In a statement issued by the National Chairperson of NAWOJ, Comrade Aisha Ibrahim, the association described Abubakar’s election as a well-deserved recognition of her years of dedicated service, professional excellence and commitment to peacebuilding, gender advocacy and national development.
NAWOJ noted that WAANSA Nigeria is a prominent coalition of civil society organisations working to curb the proliferation of small arms and light weapons, prevent gun violence, combat drug abuse, address gender-based violence and promote peace and security across the country.
According to the association, Abubakar’s emergence at the helm of the organisation reflects the confidence reposed in her leadership abilities and wealth of experience.
The association expressed pride that one of its National Executive Council members had been entrusted with leading such a strategic organisation, adding that her integrity, competence and dedication would further strengthen WAANSA Nigeria’s advocacy for a safer and more peaceful society.
NAWOJ also commended its members, led by the National Chairperson, for their solidarity and support during the WAANSA Nigeria General Assembly and election, describing their presence as a demonstration of the association’s commitment to celebrating the achievements of its members while fostering stronger partnerships with organisations promoting peace, security and sustainable development.
The association wished Abubakar a successful and impactful tenure as President of WAANSA Nigeria and reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the organisation to advance peace, security and sustainable development through responsible journalism, public enlightenment and strategic advocacy.
