The Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Professor Charles Anosike, has been honoured at the Nigeria GovTech Public Service Awards 2025, organised by the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR) under The Presidency.
NiMet received the “Best Federal MDA in Open Data Excellence” award, recognising the agency’s exceptional performance in data transparency, innovation, and digital transformation in public service delivery.
In addition, Prof. Anosike was conferred with the Distinguished GovTech Trailblazer’s Award, acknowledging his visionary leadership in advancing technology-driven governance and promoting digital transformation in alignment with the Federal Government’s digital agenda.
The awards, presented during the Nigeria GovTech Conference & Awards 2025, celebrate institutions and individuals driving innovation, transparency, and efficiency across Nigeria’s public sector.
In a statement following the recognition, the organisers commended NiMet for its unwavering commitment to providing timely, accurate, and actionable meteorological data critical for climate mitigation, early warning systems, and sustainable development.
Prof. Anosike’s leadership, they noted, has been instrumental in positioning NiMet among the world’s leading meteorological agencies—setting new benchmarks for excellence, innovation, and impact within and beyond Africa.

The Nigeria GovTech Conference & Awards, a flagship BPSR initiative, serves as a platform to catalyze digital transformation across the public sector. The event brings together government agencies, private sector innovators, technologists, policymakers, and civil society leaders to celebrate outstanding achievements in governance technology (GovTech), strengthen institutional capacity, and promote citizen-centred public service delivery.
Among other distinguished recipients were His Excellency Malam Umar A. Namadi, Executive Governor of Jigawa State, and His Excellency Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, Executive Governor of Adamawa State, who were both recognised for their contributions to digital governance and public service reforms in their respective states.
This year’s awards, according to BPSR, reaffirm the Federal Government’s commitment to fostering a transparent, efficient, and technology-driven public sector, with NiMet emerging as a model institution for innovation and data-driven governance.
