NISO Begins Construction Of New National Control Room In Osogbo
The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) has flagged off the construction of a new National Control Room at the National Control Centre (NCC) in Osogbo, Osun State, marking a major step toward strengthening Nigeria’s power transmission operations.
The project officially commenced following the handover of the site to Messrs FBS Construction Engineering Services Limited during a ceremony held on Monday, April 21, 2026.
Speaking at the event, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NISO, Engr. Abdu Bello Mohammed, urged the contractors to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, collaboration, and strict compliance with safety and quality requirements throughout the execution of the project.
He also charged the management of the National Control Centre to ensure effective supervision and coordination, expressing confidence that the project would be delivered within the scheduled timeline.
Mohammed stressed that the successful completion of the control room would significantly enhance the efficiency of power system operations and support national electricity stability.
Also speaking, the Executive Director of System Operations, Engr. Nafisatu Asabe Ali, described the National Control Centre as a critical national asset with direct implications for national security and economic development.
She said the new facility would strengthen grid reliability and improve operational efficiency across the country, reaffirming NISO’s commitment to delivering infrastructure capable of supporting a more stable electricity supply.
According to her, the handover of the site goes beyond a routine procedure, representing a renewed commitment to executing the project with purpose, clarity, and efficiency.
Ali expressed confidence in the ability of both the contractor and NISO teams to deliver the project successfully.
On his part, the Executive Director of Finance and Corporate Services, Mr. Babajide Ibironke, called on the contractor to handle the assignment with a strong sense of national responsibility.
He noted that the project remains crucial to improving electricity stability nationwide and strengthening the overall performance of Nigeria’s power sector.
