Uber Driver Commits Suicide in Osogbo After Family Pressure to Marry
From Our Correspondent
A 46-year-old Uber driver, Muftau Abiodun Musa, has reportedly committed suicide in Osogbo, Osun State, following prolonged family pressure to get married.
Sources close to the deceased disclosed that Musa had been battling depression for five years, worsened by repeated family demands that he settle down and start a family.
According to reports, Musa left a note instructing whoever discovered his body to access his phone for more details. In the note, he requested that his death should not be mourned and stated that his family could be contacted freely.
The tragic incident marks the third time Musa attempted to take his own life. In December 2023, he reportedly tried to hang himself but was saved by neighbors. Shortly afterward, he consumed insecticide and pesticide in another suicide attempt, resulting in a two-month hospitalization.
Following his recovery, Musa moved in with his mother for closer supervision. However, his family’s persistent pressure to get married reportedly became overwhelming, prompting him to leave the house in search of a new residence.
A source familiar with the situation revealed that Musa had been staying in a rented room since May 2024. However, his lease expired in December 2024, and he was given until the end of January 2025 to vacate the premises.
“Three days ago, the person who sublet the room told him to find another house, as the property owner wanted to renovate. He became deeply depressed and eventually hanged himself,” the source said.
The Osun State Police Command has taken over the investigation into the incident.
