The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has suspended former governor, Senator Gbenga Daniel, and a party chieftain, Hon. Kunle Folarin, over allegations of anti-party activities.
The State Working Committee, led by Chairman Yemi Sanusi, ratified the suspension after considering reports from disciplinary committees set up by the duo’s respective wards in Sagamu Local Government Area.
Sanusi said the committees accused the suspended members of engaging in misconduct, failing to honour invitations to defend themselves, and attempting to intimidate petitioners and party members.
“Ward 4, Sagamu, investigated Senator Gbenga Daniel, while Ward 6 investigated Hon. Kunle Folarin. Both were invited in writing to appear before their committees to defend themselves or request pardon, but they refused to attend or send written defenses,” the chairman explained.
He added that the committees also received complaints that the two men had been pressuring party members to withdraw petitions against them and warning them against cooperating with investigators.
“In view of their deliberate absences, the committees proceeded, reviewed evidence, and deliberated on the allegations. Their actions were seen as obstructing the disciplinary process,” Sanusi said.
According to him, the indefinite suspension is meant to safeguard the integrity of the party’s disciplinary process and uphold its constitution.
“The State Working Committee has ratified the suspensions; the meeting demonstrates the party’s commitment to maintaining discipline,” he added.
Both Daniel and Folarin are expected to remain suspended pending the outcome of further investigations.
