The Special Adviser to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Senator Basheer Lado, on Tuesday formally presented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s nominees for leadership positions in the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) to the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions for screening and confirmation.

The nominees are:

Dr. Thompson Oludare Sunday – Managing Director

Dr. Kabir Sabo Katata – Executive Director

Senator Lado, while handing over the nomination documents, said the appointments reflect the President’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s financial sector with tested and credible professionals.

“These nominations are based on proven competence, deep sectoral experience, and a shared vision with the President to promote financial stability, protect depositors, and strengthen public confidence in the banking system,” Lado stated.

Chairman of the Senate Committee, Senator Tokunbo Abiru, thanked Senator Lado for his continued role in bridging the Executive and Legislative arms of government. He assured that the committee would conduct a fair and thorough screening process, in line with legislative procedures, and forward its recommendations to the Senate for final confirmation.

The NDIC plays a pivotal role in Nigeria’s financial architecture by insuring deposits and promoting confidence in the banking system. The nomination and potential confirmation of new leadership are widely viewed as part of broader financial reforms aimed at enhancing regulatory effectiveness and stability.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by Iyogun Sunday, Assistant Director, Information and Public Relations, in Abuja.
