Former Director of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Ameh M. Onoja Unekwuojo (JP), has officially declared his intention to contest for the Kogi East Senatorial seat under the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), signalling what many describe as a fresh chapter of experienced and people-oriented leadership for the district.

Unekwuojo, who served meritoriously at INEC for more than two decades, is bringing into partisan politics extensive experience in governance, electoral administration, public service, and leadership within Nigeria’s democratic system.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Media Directorate led by Odokina Ojima.
According to the statement, his decision to join the race is motivated by a desire to provide effective representation, facilitate meaningful development, and rebuild public confidence in responsive leadership.
His campaign is expected to prioritise youth empowerment, agriculture, food security, education, infrastructure development, job creation, and transparent representation at the National Assembly.
Political analysts and community stakeholders have described his entry into the contest as timely, citing his integrity, administrative capacity, and deep understanding of Nigeria’s political landscape as qualities that make him well-positioned to advance the interests of the people of Kogi East.
Speaking shortly after declaring his ambition, Unekwuojo reiterated his commitment to selfless service and pledged to work diligently towards the unity, development, and prosperity of Kogi East.
