2027: Abejide Queries Support Base, Faults Fanwo, Others During Visit

The member representing Yagba East/Yagba West/Mopamuro Federal Constituency, Hon. Leke Joseph Abejide, has expressed displeasure over what he described as poor grassroots mobilisation by key political allies from Mopamuro Local Government Area ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Abejide’s reaction followed a visit on Monday by the Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Hon.

Kingsley Femi Fanwo, and other political actors from Mopamuro to the National Assembly, Abuja.

Sources at the meeting told our correspondent that the lawmaker was visibly furious, questioning the capacity of the delegation to deliver meaningful political support despite what he described as substantial financial and logistical backing provided for recent rally.

Those in the delegation included Mr Samuel Babatunde (Esanuaje), FCA, and Chief Babatunde Moses, among others.

According to the sources, Abejide particularly faulted the outcome of the “1000-man march” organised in his support in Mopamuro, describing the turnout as disappointing and not commensurate with the level of resources committed to the exercise.

“He made it clear that significant support was given to ensure a strong showing, but the turnout fell far below expectations. He questioned their effectiveness and commitment,” a source said.

The development comes amid heightened political tension in Mopamuro, following a rally by a pro–“Mopamuro lokan” group opposed to Abejide’s third-term ambition.

The rally reportedly attracted a large organic crowd before it was disrupted by security agencies, allegedly on the directive of the Mopamuro Local Government Chairman, Hon. Ademola Bello, who is believed to be aligned with the lawmaker.

Political analysts said the contrasting turnout between the pro- and anti-third term gatherings has further exposed cracks within the political structure in Mopamuro LGA.

They noted that Abejide’s reaction underscores growing concern within his camp over the strength of his grassroots support as the 2027 elections draw closer.
