2027: Former Kano Federal Lawmakers Back Tinubu’s Second-Term Bid, Endorse Barau for Governor

Former federal lawmakers from Kano State have thrown their weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term ambition and the governorship bid of the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I.

The endorsement came during a courtesy visit by the former legislators to Senator Barau in Abuja on Friday.

The group comprises lawmakers who served during the Second, Third and the current Fourth Republics.

Speaking on behalf of the forum, Hon. Umar Sadiq, who represented Kumbotso Federal Constituency between 1979 and 1983, said the decision to support President Tinubu for re-election and Senator Barau for governor was unanimously agreed upon by members.

According to a statement by the Special Adviser to the Deputy President of the Senate on Media and Publicity, Malam Ismail Mudashir, Hon. Sadiq noted that the former lawmakers are committed to mobilising support to ensure the realisation of both ambitions.

He stated that Senator Barau remains the sole candidate endorsed by the forum for the Kano governorship, describing him as a member and the first on the forum’s membership list. He added that the group has equally resolved to back President Tinubu’s bid for a second term.

Hon. Sadiq expressed confidence in Senator Barau’s leadership capacity, describing his performance record as outstanding and urging him to sustain his current pace of service to the people.

Also speaking, Hon. Idris Isah (Jollof), a former member of the House of Representatives from Nasarawa Federal Constituency, described Senator Barau as a blessing to Kano State, stressing that this informed the call for him to contest the governorship.

He said the visit was meant to reaffirm the forum’s endorsement of both Senator Barau and President Tinubu, adding that the stability and growth of the APC in Kano State is largely attributable to Senator Barau’s contributions.

In his remarks, Hon. Faruk Lawan, who represented Bagwai/Shanono Federal Constituency for 16 years, assured that members of the forum would spare no effort in working towards the success of President Tinubu and Senator Barau in the 2027 elections.

The meeting was also attended by the Chief of Staff to the APC National Chairman, Hon. Mustapha Bala Dawaki, who is a member of the forum.

Responding, Senator Barau expressed appreciation to the former lawmakers, describing them as the backbone of politics in Kano State. He said their support reinforces the collective resolve to reposition the state.

He noted that the current situation in Kano requires urgent intervention, stressing that poor leadership has contributed to the state’s decline. According to him, the objective is not personal ambition but the collective interest and progress of Kano State.

Senator Barau called on all stakeholders to work together to address the challenges confronting the state and to ensure that its resources are deployed for the benefit of all residents.
