The Niger State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has announced that 50 of the 303 students abducted from St. Mary Catholic Private School, Papiri, have escaped and reunited with their families.

The confirmation was given in a statement issued on Sunday by the CAN Chairman in Niger State, Bulus Dauwa Yohanna.

Yohanna, who also serves as the Catholic Bishop of the Kontagora Diocese, explained that the children who managed to escape from the terrorists between Friday and Saturday have been “quietly reunited with their families.”

The details of their escape remain undisclosed as church authorities continue to work closely with the government and security agencies to secure the safe return of the remaining abducted students and their teachers.
