The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State has vowed to reclaim power in the state in 2027 in order to save it from what it described as the existential threat posed by the current administration.

The party’s Consultant on Media and Public Communications, Chief Bemgba Iortyom, Esq.
, made the declaration shortly after his appointment on Friday, March 13, 2026.
In a statement made available to journalists in Makurdi, the media consultant said that having governed the state cumulatively for 22 out of the 27 years since 1999, the PDP is credited with more than 90 percent of Benue State’s development legacy within that period.
He explained that from the administrations of George Akume to Gabriel Suswam and Samuel Ortom, the party, in line with its manifesto of people-focused governance, established a strong record of welfarism, development, and the protection of lives and property.
Iortyom, however, expressed concern that the PDP’s legacy is now under threat from the administration of Governor Hyacinth Alia, which he described as “visionless, incompetent and corrupt.”
According to him, the governance of Benue State under the present administration has taken on troubling dimensions that directly threaten the continued existence of the state as a federating unit of Nigeria.
The media consultant insisted that “the state must be rescued from certain crash and destruction at the hands of a governor who took the steering wheel of leadership without even a Learner’s Permit, not to talk of a Driver’s Licence qualifying him for the job of steering the state’s affairs safely.”
Chief Iortyom said: “Today I was offered appointment as Consultant on Media and Public Communications to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State.
“I accepted the appointment and pledge to serve in the capacity given to me, firstly thanking God Almighty, and also the leadership of the party for the opportunity afforded me to serve.
“This will be my third tour of duty in service to PDP in Benue State, having served two terms as State Publicity Secretary, both in the opposition and while the party was in power. I take this appointment with utmost commitment and a strong sense of duty for the confidence and responsibility it places on me.
“My role on this tour of duty is to provide professional support to the executive leadership of the party in promoting PDP as the political brand of choice for the people of Benue, with whom the party shares a history spanning close to three decades, during which its DNA has been woven into the developmental fabric of the state.”
He further stated: “The task of getting Alia out of power in 2027 is one which all who have a stake in Benue State today and in the future must join hands to accomplish.
“This is the task I have accepted to contribute to in my capacity as Consultant to the PDP on Media and Public Communications.”
