Former Senate Leader, Ali Ndume, has won the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial ticket for Borno South Senatorial District.
Ndume was returned unopposed through an affirmation process at the venue of the primary election held in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State.

The lawmaker emerged as the consensus candidate after his main rival for the seat, Abdullahi Askira, voluntarily withdrew from the race last month.

The Deputy Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly based his decision to step down from the contest on extensive consultations and appeals from party stakeholders within the district.
If he wins the general election, the former Senate Leader would be returning to the National Assembly for a fifth term.
Speaking shortly after he was declared winner of the primary and confirmed as the party’s candidate, Ndume expressed appreciation to APC stakeholders in Borno South, delegates, and party faithful for the confidence reposed in him to continue representing their interests at the National Assembly.
He also commended his former rival, Honourable Askira, for withdrawing from the race in deference to party elders in the senatorial zone.
His statement read: “I want to thank our elders in Borno South Senatorial District for their unwavering support for me.
“I want to reassure them that I will continue to promote their interest at all times.
“I must not fail to commend Honourable Askira who listened to the persuasions and appeals of the party leaders and took the decision to drop his aspiration.
“Your loyalty to the party is exemplary.”
Ndume further urged party stakeholders to remain united and “continue to work as one united political family” as the country prepares for the general elections.
